Taking justice and support to those who need it most. Our team at LGCF carried out a community market outreach to enlighten traders and residents on the availability of our rehabilitation and pro bono legal services, particularly in addressing cases of torture, police brutality and children in conflict with the law. During the exercise, our team members engaged directly with the public, sharing information on access to justice and psychosocial support. The sensitization was aimed at equipping individuals with the knowledge to safeguard their rights and take full advantage of the support systems we have made available for their benefit. #UnitedAgainstTorture

SENSITIZATION WORKSHOP FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ON PROTEST MANAGEMENT.

On Monday, 18, 2026, Legend Golden Care Foundation held a Sensitization Workshop for Law Enforcement Officers on Protest Management. Participants gained valuable knowledge through interactive, practical learning sessions focused on rights-based, torture-free protest management. Presentations were delivered by seasoned speakers including Mrs. Ogechi Ogu and LGCF Clinical Psychologist, Abigail Uwuseba, while the event commenced with an introductory remark by our Executive Director, Mrs. Kanayo Olisa-Metuh. As part of the training, we utilized the documentary on protest management and the accompanying workbook, both funded by the International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT), as practical tools to support learning and reflection among officers. The feedback from participants was encouraging, with many expressing appreciation for the fresh insight into their responsibilities, conduct, and approach to protest and crowd management within the framework of human rights and accountability.

Payment of Fine for Inmates Project

From Ondo to Ekiti, Adamawa to Rivers State, and across several other locations in all six geo-political zones of Nigeria, volunteer lawyers of Legend Golden Care Foundation (LGCF) have commenced implementation of the Inmate Fine Payment Project. This includes the payment of fines for indigent inmates and the facilitation of their release and welfare. This follows the project’s official launch, funded by the Olisa Metuh Initiative. Despite institutional challenges, our legal team remains resolute in ensuring that underserved individuals are effectively supported and given an opportunity for reintegration.

Training on Human Rights Compliance for Police Officers in Yola, Adamawa State

On 5th June 2026, Legend Golden Care Foundation (LGCF) held a training session for police officers at Karewa Division, Yola, Adamawa State, on human rights compliance and modern policing practices. A total of 37 officers participated in the two-hour session, which was facilitated by LGCF Duty Solicitor, Abubakar Sadiq Mustapha. Discussions focused on lawful arrest and detention, bail procedures, statement taking, handling civil matters at police stations, and the need to carry out policing duties in line with the law. The session was highly interactive, with officers sharing experiences from the field and engaging in practical discussions on everyday policing challenges. Speaking on behalf of the participants, the DPO of Karewa Division thanked LGCF for the training and noted the importance of continuous learning and legal awareness in the discharge of police duties. Refurbishment of the Vocational Center for Inmates at MSCC Yola New, Nigerian Correctional Service.

On November 6th, 2024, LGCF launched the refurbished vocational centre for inmates at the Medium Custodial Centre, Yola New, in the Nigerian Correctional Service. This initiative focuses on empowering inmates with hands-on skills such as sewing and carpentry, providing them with a pathway to reintegrate into society and build a sustainable future. We are pleased to see the positive outcomes of our efforts, including the refurbishment of the roof, the purchase of vocational training equipment, and the provision of holistic rehabilitation support for the inmates. Through this project, we strive to provide sustainable opportunities that contribute to skill-building and reduce recidivism. The handover ceremony was attended by the representative of the Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, and the representative of the Minister of Interior, Honorable Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. Honourable Chinedu Ogah, Chairman of the House Committee on Reformatory Institutions, commended the initiative and called for more support from well-meaning organizations. Also present were the representative of the Comptroller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, and the Officer-in-Charge of MSCC, Yola New. LGCF remains committed to improving the welfare of inmates and promoting reforms within the Nigerian correctional system, aligning with our mission to create pathways to positive change. This initiative was a collaborative effort between LGCF and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, with support from their funding partner, the United States International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs. Hope for Freedom Tournament 3.0 Kickoff: A Symbol of Hope for Nigerian Inmates

The Hope For Freedom Tournament 3.0 kicked off on the 15th of August at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) Kuje, Nigeira, marking three years of Legend Golden Care Foundation’s (LGCF) commitment to using sports as a tool for physical and psychosocial rehabilitation. Running until the 13th of September, this annual tournament symbolizes hope, social inclusion, and a fresh start for inmates. Four teams nicknamed—Real Madrid, Arsenal, Barcelona, and Chelsea—are competing for this year’s championship. The opening ceremony was filled with energy as the teams prepared for an exciting competition. LGCF’s Executive Director, Mrs. Kanayo Olisa Metuh, was warmly received by DC Kelvin Iloanfonsi, In-Charge MSCC Kuje. In her speech, Mrs. Kanayo praised the inmates for their participation and underscored the importance of sports in their rehabilitation, calling for continued support and improved resources to improve their skills and reintegration into society. To ensure the event’s success, LGCF donated essential items, provided first aid services, light refreshments, and coordinated all necessary arrangements. This initiative goes beyond competition; it fosters rehabilitation, builds team spirit, and helps develop talents that may shape the inmates’ futures. The Hope for Freedom Tournament 3.0 stands as a powerful symbol of resilience, inclusion, and personal growth. With each match, the joy and determination of the participants echo the transformative power of sports in creating new opportunities.
