Monitoring Visit – Socio-Economic Empowerment and Psychosocial Support for Survivors of Torture On the 27th of June, 2025, LGCF Team conducted a monitoring visit to survivors of torture in Wassa community. The beneficiaries who have been enrolled for training in the areas of Tailoring, Baking and Hairdressing proudly displayed their work and shared remarkable progress in their vocational training. The visit covered five training locations, highlighting the impact of the program. With joy and gratitude, the beneficiaries expressed appreciation to LGCF and @irct_global for their invaluable support in rebuilding their lives and strengthening their livelihoods through skills development and economic empowerment.

LGCF convened one of the most impactful workshops in the torture prevention and criminal justice space: the Promoting the Right to Peaceful Assembly Workshop. The event witnessed unprecedented participation from law enforcement agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigerian Correctional Service, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. Through practical learning sessions and solution-focused discussions, participants explored improved approaches to protest management and crowd control in line with human rights standards. The workshop was also graced by high-level representatives from the National Human Rights Commission, Legal Aid Council of Nigeria @lacon_hq, Federal Ministry of Justice, Embassy of Switzerland, European Union Delegation @euinnigeria, Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights @unhcr_nigeria, and partner CSO’s. We were equally honored by the presence and support of our sponsors, the International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT). Beyond dialogue, the event served as a platform to showcase IEC materials jointly developed by LGCF and PRAWA, including a documentary on the right to peaceful assembly. These resources were designed to bridge critical knowledge gaps and support law enforcement agencies in understanding their roles, responsibilities, and human rights-based dos and don’ts in the policing of assemblies.
