On 26 February 2026, the Legend Golden Care Foundation (LGCF) carried out a Community Engagement Outreach on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Mental Health Awareness in Dobi Community, Gwagwalada, Abuja, bringing together about sixty women and men to discuss some of the pressing social challenges affecting the community. The outreach provided a platform for community members to openly share their experiences and concerns. Discussions highlighted issues such as child abuse, poor menstrual hygiene, domestic violence, and the neglect of mental health, particularly in relation to parenting and family wellbeing. In response, the LGCF team facilitated awareness sessions on gender-based violence, mental health, and available support mechanisms. Participants were encouraged to adopt practical measures for preventing abuse, promoting healthy family relationships, and seeking timely support whenever needed. The Foundation also reaffirmed its commitment to remaining accessible to the community for future assistance. Recognising the prevalence of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) within the community, LGCF also inaugurated the Dobi Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Monitoring Committee, an eleven-member community-based committee established to strengthen local response and reporting mechanisms. The committee members were equipped with the knowledge and skills to identify cases of sexual and gender-based violence, provide appropriate first response, and report incidents directly to LGCF for swift intervention and survivor support. Given Dobi Community’s distance from the Gwagwalada Area Council headquarters and the unique challenges faced by its residents, LGCF considers the community a priority for continued engagement. The Foundation remains committed to working closely with community members to strengthen protection systems, promote awareness, and ensure that vulnerable individuals have access to the support and services they need. As many residents are yet to be reached, LGCF looks forward to sustaining its engagement with Dobi Community through future outreach activities and collaborative initiatives aimed at fostering safer, healthier, and more resilient communities.

On the 15th of April 2026,  LGCF paid an advocacy visit to the Gender Advisory Unit of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to enhance gender-responsive interventions across custodial centres nationwide. LGCF was represented by Patricia Akor and Ummi Dauda, and the team was received by the Deputy Controller-General of Corrections in charge of the Health and Welfare Directorate, Mohammed Idris, alongside the Officers in Charge of Welfare, Aftercare Support and Gender. The meeting focused on exploring partnerships to improve psychosocial support, rehabilitation programs, and reintegration opportunities for torture survivors/inmates, using gender responsive approaches. It provided an important opportunity to discuss strategies for improving the welfare and rehabilitation of inmates while promoting collaborative efforts toward sustainable reintegration and human dignity within the correctional system.

In commemoration of the International Menstrual Hygiene Day, the Legend Golden Care Foundation (LGCF) conducted an outreach visit to the Yola New Correctional Centre and Yola Old Correctional Centre, reaching a total of 27 female inmates. The outreach was led by Mrs. Fadi Ahmad, LGCF Adamawa State Coordinator, alongside Abubakar Sadiq Mustapha, Duty Solicitor of LGCF, and a team of LGCF volunteers. During the visit, the team engaged both female inmates and correctional staff in a sensitization session on menstrual hygiene, self-care, and the importance of maintaining proper hygiene practices during menstruation. Following the session, LGCF distributed self-care bags containing essential menstrual and hygiene items to support the inmates during their menstrual periods. The visit also provided an opportunity to introduce LGCF’s broader humanitarian work within the justice system. Correctional authorities acknowledged the Foundation’s contributions, particularly its continued support for women, children, vulnerable persons, and justice-involved individuals. The Commandant of the Yola New Correctional Centre also commended LGCF for its previous skills development programme for inmates, noting the positive impact it has had within the facility. The inmates expressed appreciation for the sensitization session, the visit, and the donated items, describing the outreach as timely, impactful, and encouraging.
