In commemoration of the International Menstrual Hygiene Day, the Legend Golden Care Foundation (LGCF) conducted an outreach visit to the Yola New Correctional Centre and Yola Old Correctional Centre, reaching a total of 27 female inmates.
The outreach was led by Mrs. Fadi Ahmad, LGCF Adamawa State Coordinator, alongside Abubakar Sadiq Mustapha, Duty Solicitor of LGCF, and a team of LGCF volunteers.
During the visit, the team engaged both female inmates and correctional staff in a sensitization session on menstrual hygiene, self-care, and the importance of maintaining proper hygiene practices during menstruation.
Following the session, LGCF distributed self-care bags containing essential menstrual and hygiene items to support the inmates during their menstrual periods.
The visit also provided an opportunity to introduce LGCF’s broader humanitarian work within the justice system. Correctional authorities acknowledged the Foundation’s contributions, particularly its continued support for women, children, vulnerable persons, and justice-involved individuals.
The Commandant of the Yola New Correctional Centre also commended LGCF for its previous skills development programme for inmates, noting the positive impact it has had within the facility.
The inmates expressed appreciation for the sensitization session, the visit, and the donated items, describing the outreach as timely, impactful, and encouraging.
