On the 15th of April 2026, LGCF paid an advocacy visit to the Gender Advisory Unit of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to enhance gender-responsive interventions across custodial centres nationwide.
LGCF was represented by Patricia Akor and Ummi Dauda, and the team was received by the Deputy Controller-General of Corrections in charge of the Health and Welfare Directorate, Mohammed Idris, alongside the Officers in Charge of Welfare, Aftercare Support and Gender.
The meeting focused on exploring partnerships to improve psychosocial support, rehabilitation programs, and reintegration opportunities for torture survivors/inmates, using gender responsive approaches.
It provided an important opportunity to discuss strategies for improving the welfare and rehabilitation of inmates while promoting collaborative efforts toward sustainable reintegration and human dignity within the correctional system.
